We learn and grow when we take risks, both inside and out of the classroom. Adventure is an essential part of education. Black Mountain Expedition partners with schools to create a place where students are freer to grow, freer to succeed, and freer to fail. This lets students try out the limits of their own gifts and abilities in a psychologically and physically safe environment.
Taking risks builds muscle memory. Students who try to climb a rock, fall, try again, and succeed are more likely to try something new in the classroom, in the collegiate lecture hall, and eventually in their professional lives. They remember what it feels like to succeed, even after failure. They rely on the muscle memory learned through adventure.
BME has two base camps: Camp Merri-Mac and Camp Timberlake. Both properties offer cabins, dining halls, activity areas, and a lake.
Each base camp features unique features and adventures. Choosing your basecamp will be a part of your unique program design in partnership with BME.
