BME is perfectly positioned to launch students and faculty out of their comfort zone and into thousands of acres of protected wilderness. Our base camp model is the best of both worlds – students will stay in comfortable cabins on camp property, and eat many of their meals prepared by our kitchen team in our family-style dining hall. Each day they’ll meet with our professional guides after breakfast to prepare for the day’s adventure.
Schools can curate specific excursions based on their learning outcomes and assign students or allow them to select what is most exciting to them.
Students go back to school more willing to tackle a hard assignment, or try out for a team, because they tried something new – maybe even something they weren’t good at – here. Grit builds muscle memory.
A good nights rest at camp equips students each day to go out into our surrounding wilderness to try new things and safely explore the boundaries of their comfort zone.
After arriving in Black Mountain, NC, we’ll do some activities to help the students break the ice and learn their way around camp. By the time everyone climbs into their bunkbed for the evening, they’ll be well acquainted with where they are and what to expect over the next few days.
We’ll experience a full day at camp. In small activity groups, students will have the chance to tackle our climbing wall and offer encouragement to their peers, put on their oven mitts for a baking challenge, dial in their cannonball technique off the Blob at the lakefront, and so much more.
Today, we’ll take our adventures off-property as we explore some of the best that western North Carolina has to offer. This area is home to world-class hiking, waterfalls, climbing areas, caves, and vistas, and we can’t wait for you to experience them.
After one final meal in the Tucker Inn, we’ll help students reflect on what they’ve experienced and learned during the retreat, with the goal of taking that learning back to their everyday-life.
